Maybe I'm a little snow sick.. I do miss my days on the hill and coming across the work of german photographer Juliane Eirich just intensified the yearn for more days on my GNU.

heart art is off and running.. trying to figure out how to get people give us stuff for free like printing etc. First convo of that nature has been had so fingers crossed that we figure out how to convince others that they too should give their time, money, and heart over to supporting up and coming photogs.. Next show is planned with photographer marcelo gomes. We truly Heart him. Hopefully the show will go up as planned on 4/30.

Food photography is an art. It's hard work to get all those tasty treats on the insides of magazines and the sides of cartons and containers. The hardest part though is making them look good enough to eat. Now, I understand the process, half of what we see in mags and on packaging is sort of faked.. I know that Gourmet has a fresh real food policy when it comes to shooting stuff for their mag. I also know some really creative food stylist who totally re-bake things or scrape chocolate off Pepridge Farm cookies and re-glaze. All that aside a photo failure when it comes to food in my opinion is when nothing about the picture inspires any kind of pavilion response in me. In the 2 moments of free time that I've had today I found my way one of my favorite blogs iheartphotograph. They introduced me to the most fun way of dealing with food and photography in Scanwiches. I literally want lean over and lick my screen. The Scans of sandwiches for education and delight according to the site but, oh how I'd love to see the editors over at New York Magazine make good on this.

The Impossible project aims to re-start production of analog INTEGRAL FILM for vintage Polaroid cameras in 2010.
I'm a big lover of Polaroid and would hate to see it really go out for good. For those photographer friends of mine squirrelling away their last reserves here's some hope. Go on and support http://www.the-impossible-project.com/

Speaking of Polaroid here are a few other projects that I found and am a real fan of first Scott Hammond's the lovely road

Such wonderful mix of portait and roadside stuff turned beautiful.

Second, the day 19 project by husband wife shooting team Jeremy & Claire Weiss. I wish I knew a little more about the concept for the project yet, my lacking in that area doesn't take away from my attraction to this series. I wish more mags were hiring portrait artists do do this kind of stuff.

Nightmare or Work Of Art?

Maybe I'm missing something when it comes to advertising photography. Admittedly, my forte is edit not ad. However, when I came across the new ad campaign for Vivienne Westwood starring Pamela Anderson and photographed by Juergen Teller I was beside myself. Granted Pam is in the past few years a harder subject to capture but, a huge campaign that will be published as a coffee-table book??? I just can't stomach this photo.. it's so painful to look at..

Lauren Fleishman has a new piece on her site called lovers. It's a styled piece which I feel is more unusual for Lauren as most of her work seems more fly on the wall. I really like her approach even when the situation may be more set. The underlying sex appeal of the subjects contrasted with how normal the situations are an interesting combination... It's not a secret from those who know me that I'm a big fan of Andrew Hetherington's www.ahetherington.com. As an editorial and advertising photographer he keeps me laughing with his witty pairings and general view of the world as seen through his lens. I keep up with his blog whatsthejackanory.com which, I generally find chock full of gems that keep me inspired and excited. The post I encountered today however, had me down right giggling. As a card carrying member of the girl club I've encountered a doll or 2. I've even seen stories about real dolls before but, Andrew's pursuit of the story of the Doll Doctor put me over the top. AH's work is a departure from the material I've seen in the past. Maybe because the situation eerie, yet accessible or maybe it's his sense of humor which comes through in all of his work. The portraits and details of the doll heads and faces are classic AH and had me literally laughing out loud at my desk (which I'm sure adds to the general perception in the office that I'm nuts).
